Royal Castle has two good bars with one more like a public bar and the second is quieter with a good dining area - over weekend the service was excellent whether it is simply a drink, bar meal, talking to locals, listening to jazz or watching Leicester trying to beat Manchester United. A good all round experience - drinks may be slightly more expensive but you have to pay for good service and standards.
The Royal Castle Hotel is unique - with the perfect combination of a venue of historical significance that manages to be comfortable and accommodating too. The staff were most helpful and courteous. We opted for a quieter room with no harbour view and we were delighted with both the room and its luxurious and spotless ensuite bathroom. The breakfast was delicious - we could not have asked for better.
From arrival to departure, the staff of the Royal Castle couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The hotel takes care of parking your car, which is great. The hotel itself is full of charm and character. Our room was clean and well kept. It included good air conditioning and wifi that actually worked in the room (in fact everywhere in the hotel). you also get your bed turned down in the evening which we thought was great. There are 2 bars - we visited one of them a few times and we thought it was great.
The breakfasts are amazing - one of the best ever. We also ate in the Grill Room in the hotel a couple of times and the meals were excellent. All in all we had a fantastic stay and are looking forward to coming back. Thanks for making our weekend break so enjoyable.
This was our second visit to the grill room and again a culinary triumph, lovely food served by friendly and cheerful staff. We all had fish dishes, catch of the day, dish of the week, good old fish and chips, accompanied with local Sharpham wine. Delicious, we will be back.
I have always liked this hotel. However, today I chose to eat elsewhere and later joined my son who had managed to gain a window seat and was enjoying a large platter of sole. He thoroughly enjoyed it and as I tasted his meal, I realised how silly I had been to eat elsewhere! It won't happen again, as I have always enjoyed everything I have chosen at this beautifully appointed hotel, particularly the seafood. I must compliment the staff who seemed super efficient and helpful, despite the hotel being extremely today busy with parents, guests and students from the nearby College.
Visited the Hotels Grill room Restaurant on a busy Saturday evening. As a family we tried several of the fish dishes , the mains sampled being Dover sole, Pan-seared Skrei Cod and Gurnard Stuffed with Scallop Mousse. The Gurnard won.
The service was excellent and attentive and the food delicious. The Restaurant was on the first floor and was quite spacious with a nice atmosphere and a nice view of the harbour.
