The Royal Castle Hotel has been awarded the Gold Award by South Hams District Council for it's continued dedication to promoting and practising the following environmentally friendly policies for the benefit of their guests and to help protect the local area. The South Hams is one of the leading areas in the UK for promoting 'Green Tourism'.
. All hotel waste is sorted into paper, cardboard, compost, glass bottles and cans then taken to local recycling points, or used as firelighters in the winter.
. We only use smokeless fuels on the fires and logs that are from fallen trees.
. We only use biodegradable chlorine free cleaning products
. We use energy saving light bulbs in as many fittings as is safely possible
. We only use recycled toilet tissue, paper hand towels etc.
. In the bedrooms we use refillable natural soap and bubble bath products and have 'guest' green bins for recycling.
. We use as many local suppliers as possible to reduce the number of delivery lorries to the hotel and actively encourage the use of reusable delivery containers.
. When training all of our staff they are made aware of our Green policies and encouraged to share the hotel's 'Green Policy' with our guests.
. We reward customers arriving by train (and staying for 3 nights or more) with a free taxi from the station and for all guests we have a list of over 30 different leisure activities you can enjoy without using your car!
